Could the disabled substitute Tayammum for ablution?

Question:

Assalaamu Alaykum, I am physically disabled, and find it difficult to perform ablution. Is it permissible for me to always perform Tayammum (dry ablution) before prayer? May Allaah Reward you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is due upon the one who intends to pray to make Tahaarah with water, even though he is disabled, as long as he could perform ablution. He could avert the difficulty by getting ready for ablution some time before the prayer and seek the aid of others in doing it. But if he fails to do so and is afraid that the due time of prayer would be over, there will be no harm on him to perform Tayammum, for by no means Does Allaah Charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity, Nor Does He Place upon you in His religion any difficulty. The person, therefore, knows his status best and whether he is capable or not.

Allaah Knows best.
