Question:

Please provide details about the female Companion, may Allaah be pleased with her, whose husband was martyred in the battle of Ajnadayn and whom was later proposed to by four of the Companions from among the ten who were promised Paradise, may Allaah be pleased with them, and then married one of them. May Allaah reward you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The female Companion whom you asked about is Umm Abaan bint ‘Utbah ibn Rabee’ah, and the Companion who married her was Talhah ibn ‘Ubayd-Allaah Al-Qurashi At-Taymi.

Ibn Atheer said in Usd Al-Ghaabah:

Umm Abaan bint ‘Utbah ibn Rabee’ah ibn Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaaf Al-Qurashiyyah Al’Abshamiyyah, the maternal aunt of Mu’aawiyah. She was in the Levant with her husband Abaan ibn Sa’eed ibn al-‘Aas, and he was killed in Ajnadeen, so she went back to Madeenah after his death.

When she came back from the Levant, ‘Umar, Ali, Az-Zubayr and Talhah all proposed to her for marriage, and she chose Talhah, so the latter married her.” [End of quote]

Allaah knows best.
