Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. I read in one of your fatwas that its permissible to write love poems without indicating a particular woman and without expressing vulgarity. Suppose that I love a girl and want to marry her and kept the feeling to myself and took no haram actions. Can I write a poem about this feeling of love in a way that does not identify the girl of my love and in a way that does not contain any vulgar words and descriptions. Please discuss in detail. Thanks.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If you abide by the conditions mentioned in the fatwa that you referred to in the question, then there is nothing wrong with writing such a poem. For more benefit on these conditions, please refer to fatwa 86913.

If Allaah instills the love of a girl in a person’s heart, then he should fear Allaah and be patient and avoid any act or statement with her that would cause the Wrath of Allaah and render the person sinful. Moreover, he should hasten to marry her, if possible. Ibn Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, “The best solution for those who love each other is marriage.” [Ibn Maajah]

Allaah knows best.
