Question:

What has gone wrong with the nation of Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds.  I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Allaah The Almighty sent the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to the Arabs who were a pagan, illiterate, ignorant, weak and subordinate nation. They were engaged in continuous warfare over trivial reasons.  Before Islam, the Arabs used to bury their baby daughters alive, deal in Riba (usury), commit adultery and drink alcohol, in addition to many other immoral actions.

Once the Arabs embraced Islam, they turned from being shepherds to the masters of all nations and they defeated the Romans and the Persians, who were the most powerful and influential nations at that time. Moreover, the influence of the Islamic civilization reached China and France.

Later, when this nation deviated from the true religion; followed its lusts and many of its people responded to dubious claims about Islam propagated by disbelievers, it suffered a relapse as it returned to its pre-Islamic status. It has become a weak, disunited, poor and immoral nation.

The only way to save Muslims is shown in the honorable Quranic verse wherein Allaah The Almighty Said (what means): {Indeed, Allaah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.}[Quran 13:11]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said that if we condoned prohibited transactions among us, preoccupied ourselves with crops and abandoned compulsory Jihaad for the sake of worldly affairs, Allaah The Exalted would permit us to be humiliated, and would not relieve us of it until we truly return to our religion and change the evil of our reality.

Hence, every Muslim is responsible for correcting himself, those who are under his care and any other Muslim whom he could positively influence.  In this way, we will deserve the support and victory of Allaah The Almighty Who Said (what means): {And Allaah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allaah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.}[Quran 22:40]

We supplicate Allaah The Almighty to grant us victory over our enemies and our evil-enjoining selves. Aameen (Amen).

Allaah Knows best.
