Question:

My grandmother gave her share of land to me and my brothers after she inherited that same share from my father even though she has two other sons and three daughters; this was done upon the request of her older son and with the approval of her other son, and there is no objection from her daughters; and she did that even though my older brother told her that she should keep it for her kids and she new that we where not in need. She insisted to give it to us; this happened 14 years ago. Was that halal?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

In light of the information mentioned in the question, the gift of your grandmother to you (her share of land) is valid and there is no problem with it.

Allah knows best.
