Question:

Hello. I am interested to know, has anyone exept our Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, been touched in a dream by Allaah? Is that even possible? Did anyone dream of Allaah in any form that Allaah touches him in a dream? Is that possible? Thank you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Perhaps you are referring to the hadeeth that reads, “My Lord came to me in the most beautiful image and said, ‘O Muhammad.’ I said, ‘Here I am at Your service, my Lord.’ He said, ‘What are the angels disputing about…’ I said, ‘My Lord, I do not know.’ So He put His Hand between my shoulders…

You are asking whether what is mentioned in the hadeeth happened to Prophets besides our Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). The answer is that, after investigation, we have not come across any text that indicates this. Nonetheless, seeing Allah in a dream may happen to some righteous people; there is nothing that prevents this Islamically. An-Nawawi quoted Al-Qaadhi Iyaadh, who said, “The scholars agreed that it is permissible to see Allah in a dream, and that this is valid…” [Sharh Muslim]

Allah knows best.
