No sin for skipping Quranic verses and ahaadeeth while reading texts

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. When I am reading in a book or on a website and I see a verse or part of the Quran or even a hadith, do I have to stop and read it in order to show respect to the Words of Allaah, The Exalted, and the words of our Messenger, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam? Or is it okay to not read it (for instance, go to the next post if it is on a social media website, where this usually happens), especially if it is a verse or hadith that I already know? Please advise. May Allaah reward you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The reader does not have to stop and read the Quranic verses and ahaadeeth, and he bears no sin for skipping them while reading. However, it is becoming of the Muslim to be keen on benefiting from the texts of the Quran and Sunnah. Indeed, they are of much more benefit and impact than any other texts. Allah, The Exalted, says about the Quran being sufficient apart from all other non-divine texts (what means):

- {And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book which is recited to them? Indeed in that is a mercy and reminder for a people who believe.} [Quran 29:51]

- {Say: I only warn you by revelation.} [Quran 21:45]

- {And this Quran was revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches.} [Quran 6:19]

- {Say: If I should err, I would only err against myself. But if I am guided, it is by what my Lord reveals to me.} [Quran 43:50]

- {And warn by the Quran those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord - for them besides Him will be no protector and no intercessor - that they might become righteous.} [Quran 6:51]

- {But remind by the Quran whoever fears My threat.} [Quran 50:45]

Allah knows best.
