Question:

Is there a type of black magic called Rasd (when a certain Jinni is appointed for a certain spell and is not allowed to quit even after the death of his employing black magician)? Some claim that this type of magic cannot be treated by the Quran and that it is necessary to resort to someone acquainted with magic to annul it. How valid is this claim? As a type of treatment, is it permissible to write some Quranic verses and then to evaporate them?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It seems that this type of magic is similar to the type that was used against the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, by the Jewish sorcerer Labeed ibn Al-A‘sam. Furthermore, it is known that Allaah The Exalted, undid that spell by making Jibreel (Gabriel) may Allaah exalt his mention perform Ruqyah for the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. This incident indicates that it is possible to annul this type of magic using Sharee'ah-approved Ruqyah.

Moreover, when ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her asked the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, he indicated that he had not dug out the knotted spell itself. This incident indicates that it is not necessary to find the form of the spell to undo it.

Furthermore, we warn that resorting to magicians and other soothsayers and sorcerers to undo a spell must be avoided. according to evidence from the Sharee'ah (Islamic law).

Allaah Knows best.
