Bitterness of tongue is dispraised trait

Question:

What does Islam say about people with bitter tongues?
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Bitterness of tongue and obscenity in speech are despicable qualities. Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, “Foul language is part of coarseness, and coarseness will be in Hellfire.” [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi]

Moreover, Ibn Mas’ood, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, “A believer is neither a slanderer nor a curser, nor is he obscene or vulgar.” [Ahmad, Al-Bukhari and At-Tirmithi]

There are many Islamic texts in this regard; it is enough to mention the saying of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say good words or remain silent.”

Therefore, one should advise the people who use foul language to stop doing so, and they should know that their words are part of their deeds, that they are held accountable for their speech, that the tongue is one of the reasons that make the sons of Aadam (Adam) enter Hellfire the most, and that preserving one’s tongue from obscene and foul language is one of best qualities of the believers.
