Question:

A YouTube shaykh said that even if you do not remember Allaah, He remembers you. Is that correct? Please provide proof. This queston is important.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If this person means that Allah, The Exalted, remembers His slave who is neglectful of His remembrance in terms of providing him with provisions and food, watching him in all his states, and determining for him what He decreed for him out of His Wisdom, then this is true. On the other hand, if he means that Allah, The Exalted, remembers His slave who is neglectful of His remembrance in the sense that He praises and rewards him, this is undoubtedly incorrect. The reward for whoever remembers Allah, The Exalted, by Allah remembering him in the assembly of angels is not granted to those who neglect the remembrance of Allah. Allah says (what means): {So remember Me; I will remember you.} [Quran 2:152] The authentic Qudsi hadeeth reads, “Allah, The Almighty, said, 'I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it.’” [Al-Bukhari]

Allah knows best.
