Repeating words of disbelief in song without believing in them

Question:

I read your fatwas, but I could not find the answer. Is repeating words of Kufr (disbelief) in an song Kufr without believing it? And also, is it Kufr to buy Kufr stuff given that supporting Kufr is Kufr. And also, how about enjoying it but without believing in it, as it is only done for entertainment.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There are several points here that need to be addressed:

Firstly: It is very clear from your previous questions that you are suffering from Waswasah (obsessive whispers), especially in this matter of Kufr. Therefore, we warn you against these whispers and advise you to repel them, ignore them, and not pay any attention to them. Getting carried away with such whispers leads to evil consequence.

Secondly: It is the scholars who judge and rule whether or not certain words are Kufr. You may think that these words are Kufr (i.e. take a person out of the fold of Islam) while they are not. So be heedful of this.

Thirdly: A person may repeat these words while not knowing that they are forbidden, so he is not held accountable until it is clarified to him and the evidence is established against him. Then, if he insists, he becomes a non-Muslim.

Fourthly: In principle, mentioning the word of Kufr without coercion is Kufr. Abu Muhammad Ibn Hazm said, “The one who openly shows Kufr, and he is not just reading it [from a book or written document], or testifying (about) it, or narrating it, or being forced to say it, Kufr applies to him obligatorily, by the consensus of the scholars, who see that the ruling that applies to him is disbelief, and by the ruling of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) on this, and by the text of the Quran that whoever says the word of Kufr is a Kaafir (disbeliever).”

Fifthly: You did not clarify to us what you mean by buying Kufr stuff. In principle, a person does not go out of the fold of Islam unless he has committed one of the matters that necessitate apostasy. Merely buying something that includes Kufr does not necessitate apostasy, as it is possible that he bought it for a valid purpose. Indeed, such a person is not judged to be a Kaafir unless he makes lawful what is agreed upon to be unlawful, or he is pleased with Kufr and he confesses it.

Finally, we again warn you that you must ignore obsessive whispers, repel them, and not get carried away with them.

Allah knows best.
