Saying that Allah is not good is disbelief

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. My Sister said that Allaah does not listen to her and that He is not good. My sister said this in front of me, and I told her to repent, but she refused. She said this because she is upset with our family problems. She is married with a Barelvi man. Is her marriage valid? And what should I tell her to do? Does she need to renew her testimony of faith?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, we would like to point out that one of the most serious matters is getting angry at the Predestination of Allah and His Afflictions, as this may lead to what is greater than that, which is what happened here.

If what is mentioned in the question is true, then this woman has uttered a word of disbelief by describing the Lord of the Worlds with that He is not good.

If this woman uttered this word while she was of sound mind and she had chosen to utter it [i.e. she was not forced], then she has apostated from Islam.

She must be advised and reminded of Allah and made to know the evil consequences of what she said unless Allah’s mercy encompasses her by enabling her to return to Him and to repent.

Hence, she must repent and take the Shahaadah (utter the two testimonies of faith). If she does not repent, then it is not permissible for her husband to have sexual relations with her.

If you are asking about the ruling of her marriage with that man who follows the Barelvi sect, then this sect is based on false ideologies and polytheistic beliefs, as we have already clarified in fatwa 87790. So if that husband follows the ideologies of this sect which take a person out of the fold of Islam, then her marriage with him is not valid. However, if he follows some of the innovations of this sect that do not take a person out of the fold of Islam, then her marriage with him is valid.

It should be noted that not everyone who is affiliated with such sects is aware of their false ideologies, so this should be taken into account.

With regard to supplication, a Muslim should supplicate, and the matter of answering the supplication is in the Hands of Allah.

Allah responds whenever He wishes according to His knowledge and Wisdom. Rather, hastening the answer is one of the impediments of having one’s supplication answered.

Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, "The supplication of a person is answered as long as they do not say, 'I supplicated but my supplication was not answered.’'" [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

Having one’s supplication answered does not necessarily mean getting the same thing that one has supplicated for. Allah may give the person who supplicated what is better than what he had supplicated for.

Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, "There is no Muslim who supplicates Allah with a supplication that does not contain any sin or the severing of ties with kinship except that Allah will give him one of three things: either He will speedily answer his supplication, or He will save it for him in the Hereafter, or He will repel something bad from him equal to the value of his supplication." The Companions said, "So we will supplicate a lot." Thereupon, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, "Allah will accept even more." [Ahmad]

It should be noted that sometimes the tribulation may lead to something good. If a person is patient with the tribulations and afflictions that befall him and he seeks Allah’s reward for that, then this will raise his degrees and wipe out his sins.

Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said, "An affliction continues to affect a believing man or a believing woman in their self, their children, and their wealth, until they meet Allah without a sin." [At-Tirmithi]
