Question:

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. If I die in a video game and respawn again and continue playing, is this considered Shirk (polytheism)? I do not know if contradicts the Shariah since I have to start somewhere again in the game if I want to continue playing.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

What you mentioned is not considered Shirk, and the game in reference is not prohibited merely because it ends with the player's death. However, you should spend your time wisely and not waste it without benefit. There is no doubt that indulgence in recreation and entertainment is blameworthy; it wastes time and causes heedlessness (of religious obligations).

Please refer to fatwas 83778 and 86106 about the conditions for permissibility of computer games.

Allah knows best.
