All afflictions predetermined by Allah

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. Sheikh, my family face a lot of problems in this world. Allah has given ten children to my parents; six daughters and four sons. My parents love all of them and treat them nicely. We even pray to Allah and ask only Him. Five of them sisters got married, and three of them have become disabled (they have not been able to walk normally for 15 years now), but, praise be to Allah, their husbands are very kind to them. For the past seven years, however, my last sister has not been able to find any spouse. We have been trying so much, but everyone rejects her because of what happened to my other sisters, even though she is very pious and beautiful. We have been weeping for many years now. Some people make fun of my sisters, and my mother has often cried when hearing about that. Someone told us that this is happening because we killed a jinn, which was in the form of snake, some 30 years ago. And now he or his family are supposedly taking revenge. One of my brothers says that he saw a lady jinn or devil in our house at night. We are confused now. Why is Allah testing us so much, and what mistake have we or our parents made? Until now, we believe that this is all of what was predestined for us. Someone told us to go a man who deals with such things, and then he will supplicate after every Fajr prayer, or we should call him to our home to supplicate, if that is possible, so that the jinn or problems would move from us. My brother said that this person does not have a beard and that his clothes are also (not) as per the Shariah. Now, we expect that Allah will reward us for our patience, but we still face these very problems and the same confusion. Please supplicate for us, for my sisters, and for the safety of our faith. Please reply to me regarding this. Please tell any pious shaykh to supplicate for us, as we are facing big problems.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

We ask Allah to relieve your distress, help you overcome the calamities that have befallen you, and remove all harm from you by His Grace and Mercy. You should know that any problem that a person faces was decreed and predetermined by Allah; whatever happens or does not happen to any person is inevitable, and it could not have been otherwise. Therefore, you should firmly believe in the Qadar (Divine Decree) of Allah and submit to His judgment, as there is divine wisdom in everything which He has decreed. A person may dislike something while it is the means to what he wishes for, and vice versa; Allah says (what means): {But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.} [Quran 2:16]

You shall earn extra rewards for your patience with the afflictions that befall you. For more benefit, please refer to fatwa 83577.

You should know that your sister shall have whatever Allah has decreed for her. We ask Allah to bless her with a pious husband.

As for what you mentioned about the jinn and the like, then regardless of whether this is true or not, the remembrance of Allah (Thikr), asking for His help, and frequent supplication ward off all evil. So you should all strive in supplicating to Allah, have good expectations of Him, be sincere in relying on Him, and entrust all your affairs to Him.

There is no harm in asking someone whom you believe to be pious to supplicate for you. We implore Allah to relieve you of all your worries.

Allah knows best.
