Waswasah about disbelief in heart

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum, dear Brothers who are running this amazing informative website. I am someone who liked playing dice games like Monopoly. After being informed about the hadith prohibiting dice games, in a jest of the moment, I went to search for more convenient fatwas online until I realized that my heart was not submitting to Prophet Muhammad's, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, command. I aborted that search. Now I am worried that I have committed disbelief (through actions of the heart) by searching for an alternative justification for dice games. Note that I used to suffer from excessive Waswasah (devilish whisperings/obsessive doubts) a couple of years ago, which I managed to overcome, praise be to Allah, but this new issue is causing me serious distress. I repented to Allah, the Exalted, but do I have to repeat my testimony of faith?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

What you have mentioned is absolutely not Kufr (disbelief) at all, and you do not have at all to repeat your testimony of faith.

What led you to ask this question is what you mentioned; your suffering from Waswasah (obsessive whispering); hence, the treatment that you must follow is the following:

You must totally ignore these thoughts, not pay any attention to them, not get carried away with them, not ask questions about them, and ask Allah to cure you from them.

Allah knows best.
