Question:

What is the ruling on loving the devil? One may not love him because of his disbelief, but he may like him because if one fornicates, he will naturally have some liking to him as this is one of his characteristics.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is absolutely not permissible for a Muslim to love the devil in any case, because he is the head of disbelief, and it is not permissible to love a disbeliever.

Allah says (what means): {You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger.} [Quran 58:22]

If a person obeys the devil and commits fornication or adultery, this does not necessarily mean that he loves him. A person’s love for committing a sin does not mean that he loves the devil, who incited him to commit this sin.

So your statement, that there will naturally be some love for the devil, is incorrect.

Allah knows best.
