Woman shaking hands with men with disabilities

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. I work in a program that assists individuals with disabilities to understand the work environment. In Islam, is it permissible for for a woman to shake hands with a male individual who has disabilities?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The majority of the scholars held that it is prohibited to shake hands with the members of the opposite sex who are non-Mahram (marriageable). We hold this to be the preponderant opinion in this regard. Please refer to fatwa 82318.

Hence, it is impermissible for the woman to shake hands with non-Mahram men regardless of whether they have a disability or not.
