Question:

Asalamo AlaikumI have a questionWhen I have a doubt about whether I committed a sin or not,I have a feeling in my heart that I need to convince ALLAH that my heart is pure so I keep telling him that 'This wasnt my intention' and so on and basically I keep explaining to ALLAH that I did not sin with logics. So is it allowed to do it?Because ALLAH already knows what is inside our hearts so is it allowed to tell him? Also Shaytan keeps telling me in my mind that ALLAH does not understand it and so on.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

This conduct is improper with Allah, The Almighty, so you should be careful, because Allah is the Greatest so He should not be treated like one treats the creation.

Allah urged us to repent and He loves that His Slaves repent to him, and He accepts the repentance from those who repent. Allah Says (what means):

• {Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”.} [Quran 39:53]

• {Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.".} [Quran 2:222]

Anas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Moreover, Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Verily, Allah is more delighted with the repentance of His Slave than a person who lost his camel in a desert and then fond it (unexpectedly)”. [Muslim]

It seems that you are affected with whispers (OCD), so you should not pay any attention to them. If you doubt whether or not you are sinful, then in principle you are not sinful. However, if you are sure that you are sinful, then you should take the initiative to repent and think good of your Lord.

The conditions of repentance are highlighted in Fatwa 86527.

Hence, you should not take into consideration any devilish whispers, and the best treatment for these whispers is to ignore them. Continuing to think about them could lead to unpleasant consequences, like despairing from the mercy of Allah, which is one of the great major sins. Allah Says (what means):

• {He said, “And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?”} [Qur'aan 15:56]

• {…and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people.”} [Quran 12:87]

Allah knows best.
