Question:

Assalamu alaikum,Can yo describe us about how friendly was Rasullah sallahu alaihi wa sallam with his sahabas. Some hadiths i want to see. Did he use to keep a little distance from people? We know that friendliness is good. And he did not use to talk much.Barak Allah feekum wa jazakum Allah khairan

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, we thank you for contacting us.

You should know that this question is very broad and cannot be answered in a Fatwa. Rather, it requires books consisting of many volumes; it is not one or two Ahadeeth, but rather hundreds of Ahadeeth!

For example, Ibn Sa’d reported in his book At-Tabaqaat that Anas ibn Maalik may Allaah be pleased with him narrated:

I accompanied the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) for ten years [..] If one of his companions met with him, he would stand with him, and he would not go away until it is the man would be the one to depart from him. If one of his companions met him and held his hand, he would not take off his hand until it is the man who would take his hand off. If any of his companions wants to speak to him secretly and puts his mouth next to his ear (to whisper to him), the Prophet would not take away his ear (head) unless it is the man would pull away from him.” [Al-Albaani classified it as Hassan]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) also used to be friendly with boys. Anas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that he was once walking with the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and they passed by young boys and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) greeted them. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Moreover, Sahl ibn Haneef narrated: “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) used to go to the poor Muslims, visit them, visit the ill ones amongst, and attend their funeral processions.” [Al-Haakim who graded it as authentic]

These three Ahaadeeth about the kindness of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) are enough. They are excerpted from a chapter entitled “Khuluq At-Tawaddud” (the conduct of kindness) from Mawsoo’at Al-Akhlaaq (the Encyclopedia of Morals), issued by Ad-Durar As-Saniyyah Foundation.

Allah knows best.
