Question:

Assaalmaulikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakaatuhWhat is the ruling on parking cars in streets? As a result the street becomes narrow. But the people do not have any choice because there are no parking lots. Rarely you might find, but even that may not occupy all the cars. So, street parking is a common norm.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is not permissible to park cars in such streets that are intended for people to tread, if this harms them.

Parking cars in this manner is not of the characteristics of the believer, as stated by Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen may Allaah have mercy upon him.

The jurists stated that a person bears the liability in the event of causing harm to people because of this act (parking the car in this manner).

Allah knows best.
