Question:

Asalaam aleykoum. There is a job as an "Education administrator" at a university (in the west), where you work as a course administrator for the courses within the psychology education program. Now is this job halal? If you for exampel book halls for lectures, registrate students in courses, updateing information about these courses, and helping studenst in general when it comes to these courses in psychology. Now if the some of the content in the psychology program/courses consist of knowledege that are contrary to islamic teachings, will the person who work at this job contributing to students learning those things? Will the person be helping in somthing that is not permissble? Note that my question is not about whether or not it is haram to work in a mixed university in the west, but the question is about the job itself, or the assiments. Please answer as soon as possible. Barak'Allahu feekom.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It appears to us that this kind of work is permissible, because studying and teaching psychology is permissible. In principle, it is a useful science and the fact that it includes some Islamic violations does not necessitate forbidding it totally.

Allah knows best.
