Question:

How to refute "God has no religion" ?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

This statement has a correct meaning and a false meaning. If what is meant by it is that Allah has no religion which He has to adhere to like His Creation, then this is true and it is known by intuition.

Allah Almighty is the One Who commands and is not commanded, He forbids but He is not forbidden (from anything), and He obliges His Slaves to carry out commandments while He is not obliged to do anything.

This is a true and a correct meaning, yet there is no need for such innovated words: “God has no religion" even if it means a true meaning, as it never comes to the mind of a Muslim that anyone commands Allah, forbids Him (from doing anything), or obliges Him (to do anything).

Every Muslim knows that Allah is the Greatest, the Majestic and the Exalted; so there is no need for such innovated words.

Rather, the one who says this, should be rebuked, deterred and be told that Allah is the Greatest, the Majestic and the Exalted, as did the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) when he heard a man saying “We ask Allah to intercede with you.” The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Woe to you: Do you know (the meaning of) what you are saying?” Then the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) continued to utter Tasbeeh (glorifying Allah) till the effect of that was apparent on the faces of his Companions. He then said: “Woe to you: Allah is not to be sought as intercessor with anyone from among His Creation. The status of Allah is greater than this.” [Abu Dawood]

On the other hand, if what is meant by this statement is that Allah did not send His Messengers (and Prophets) with any religion and He did not order His Creation with any religion which they must worship Him with, then this is the most abominable lie and the worst of all falsehood. Would Allah create His Creation and leave them aimlessly and not command them (to carry out religious obligations) or forbid them (from what is forbidden)? Exalted is He and high above what they say by great sublimity. Allah Says (what means): {Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"} [Quran 23:115]

In this world, when manufacturers manufacture something, they write manuals for the people to show to them how to utilize it and how to use the product; how would the case be regarding the Creator, Glorified and Exalted be He, Who has created this universe, would create His Creation and does not send Messengers (and Prophets) to them so that they would clarify to them what Allah wants from them? This is the worst of all falsehood. All the Scriptures and Divine Laws refute this allegation.

Allah Says (what means):

·   {Unquestionably, for Allah is the pure religion.} [Quran 39:3]

·   {Indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims."} [Quran 2:132]

·   {Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.} [Quran 3:19]

·   {And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.} [Quran 3:85]

·   {It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it.} [Quran 9:33]

There are many verses in this regard.

Therefore, such a statement would only be said by a Kaafir (non-Muslim). One should not waste his time by following such statements and trying to refute them.

Some falsehood is not known by the people and refuting it or responding to it may disseminate it, propagate it and help spreading it.

Allah knows best.
