Question:

Can I eat the food (walnuts) recieved from Hindu on the occasion of Mahanavmi (thier festival) Please guide in light of QuranAnd sunah

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is no harm in accepting the gifts of non-Muslims in their festivals, as stated by a group of Companions may Allaah be pleased with them.

Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him said:

As for accepting a gift from them (non-Muslims) on the day of their festival, we have stated that ʻAli ibn Abu Taalib may Allaah be pleased with him was brought a gift on the occasion of Nayrooz (Persian festival) and he accepted it.

Also, Abu Burzah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that he had Magi neighbors, and they used to gift him on the day of Nayrooz and the festival day, and he used to say to his family: “You can only eat the fruits.” [The same thing was reported from ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her].

All this indicates that the festival does not have any effect on the prohibition of accepting gifts from the non-Muslims’. Rather, the ruling on their festival days and other days is the same, because this is not helping them in their rites of disbelief.” [End of quote]

The above is excerpted from the book entitled Iqtidhaa’ As-Siraat Al-Mustaqeem, authored by Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him.
