Question:

Assalaamu alaikum wa rohmatullohi wabarakaatuh! Dear Sheikh, is there any other deed expect jihaad fisablilillah that can guarantee jannaaah? May Allah (SWT) reward you with goodness!

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

All good deeds – while being a believer – are a reason for entering Paradise as Allah Says (what means): {...but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.} [Quran 40:40]

A Muslim is required to strive in doing good and being keen on performing every good deed even if it is little in his view as it may be a reason for entering Paradise.

Indeed, a man entered Paradise because of a branch which he removed from the road.

Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "A man entered Paradise because he removed a thorny branch from the road of the Muslims." [Ahmad]

Another narration reads: "Do not consider any act of goodness as being insignificant even if it were meeting your brother with a cheerful face." [Muslim]

There is no doubt that Jihaad for the sake of Allah is one of the greatest reasons for entering Paradise, but it is also proven in the Sharee'ah that there are other good deeds that are a reason for entering Paradise.

Among the good deeds for which the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) guaranteed Paradise for the person who does it is guarding one’s tongue from obscene words, and protecting one’s private parts from what Allah has forbidden.

Sahl ibn Sa’eed may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Whoever guarantees me what is between his jaws (i.e. his tongue), and (the chastity of) what is between his legs (i.e. his private parts), I guarantee for him Paradise." [Al-Bukhari]

Also, among these deeds is to restrain oneself from asking the people.

Thawbaan may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Who will guarantee me one thing (i.e. commit himself to doing it), I will guarantee him Paradise?' I said: 'I will, O Prophet of Allah.' He said: 'Do not ask people for anything.' So Thawbaan would drop his whip while he was on his mount, and he would not say to anyone: 'Get that for me'; rather, he would dismount his camel and grab it (himself)." [Ahmad]

One of these deeds also is reciting Ayatul-Kursi, i.e. verse 255 from Surah al-Baqarah. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Whoever recites Ayatul-Kursi after every obligatory prayer nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death." [An-Nasaa’i in as-Sunan Al-Kubra, and others]

Besides, one Companion asked the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) to inform him about a deed that will make him enter Paradise if he does it, so the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) advised him about some good deeds.

Abu Ayoob al-Ansaari may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that a man asked the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ): "Inform me about a deed if I do it I will enter Paradise. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Worship Allah and do not associate with him anything, establish the prayer, pay the Zakat, and keep kinship ties." [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

The fear of Allah is one of the greatest deeds that make a person enter Paradise as Allah Says (what means): {But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens.} [Quran 55:46]
