Question:

Assalam aalekum there is Hadith in sahi Muslim(7147) and musnad Ahmed that men and women disputed that which of them form majority in paradise they asked Abu huraira and he said that prophet said that first group to enter paradise will look like moon when it is full second group will look like most brilliant planet in sky each of them will have two wives. This two wives are from women of the world or hoors of jannah what is the meaning of above hadith

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The Hadeeth that you mentioned was reported by Al-Bukhaari and Muslim from Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him.

Some interpreters of the Hadeeth mentioned that the two wives mentioned in the Hadeeth are women from this worldly life.

Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him said:

“His saying: and for each one of them there will be two wives; i.e. from the women of this worldly life. Ahmad narrated another narration from Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him from the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) that the lowest man in rank who will be amongst the inhabitants of Paradise, will get seventy-two wives, besides his wives from the worldly life. The chain of narrators of this narration includes Shahr ibn Hawshab, who is considered as a Dha’eef narrator.

Moreover, Abu Ya’la, in the long Hadeeth about the blowing of the trumpet, in another narration from Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him from the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) reported that a man will enter upon seventy-two wives that Allah will create for him, and two wives from the children of Aadam.

Some of them said that they are from the Hoor al-‘Ayn. The narration by al-Bukhaari reads: “For every man, there will be two wives from the Hoor al-‘Ayn.” This is what Ibn al-Qayyim considered to be the preponderant view in his book Haadi al-Arwaah; he provided evidence of this narration and attributed it to Imam Ahmed.
