Removing Eyebrow Hair When it Constitutes Appearance Deformation

2-6-2020 | IslamWeb

Question:

Assalamualaikum, I apologize for such question. I have not checked it with a doctor but I have a facial skin condition that could be seborrheic dermatitis also known as dandruff (flakes of skin). This appears on my eyebrows a lot and when I go to exfoliate it or remove it, eyebrow hairs come out with it, sometimes a lot. I am a female and I wanted to know if this falls under the ruling of plucking the eyebrows. I have repented to Allah in fear because it is his creation. May Allah bless you and the ummah through this pandemic and thereafter.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Since peeling that skin leads to plucking the hair of the eyebrows, then you must refrain from doing it.

However, if you must do so as a treatment, then we have already highlighted in previous Fataawa the cases when plucking the hair of the eyebrows is permissible, one of which is when it is obligatory as a treatment.

The same thing applies when the hair of the eyebrows is excessively abundant in a way that it causes harm, or that it constitutes a deformation to the creation to an extent of reaching the level of disfigurement.

For more benefit on removing hair of eyebrows that deforms the face, please refer to Fataawa 13654, 21897, 348430, and 90802.

Also, for more benefit on removing hair from the body in general, please refer to Fatwa 81950.

Allah Knows best.
