Students Writing Assignment About Astrology and Polytheism

4-4-2021 | IslamWeb

Salam scholars, I hope you guys can help me. So, I go to a school for history class, they teach us many religions. They taught us Islam too. But the problem is they also teach religions and the beliefs of people from ancient times. I recently got an assignment which was about astrology false deities (polytheism). All we did was look into what false deity represents our birthday, what it represents, what we found out and what our opinion is. When I was doing the assignment, I simply copied the important stuff, and AVOIDED calling the false deities "God" or "Lord". I also wrote down that I don't believe in such things for my opinion. It's still bothering me that I did something wrong and nullified my Islam. Please advise what I should do in the future and what I should do if I did nullify. JazakAllah-Khair.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Your Islam has not been invalidated by what you have mentioned, but you are, praise be to Allah, still a Muslim.

There is no blame on you for writing about such things in tests or researches while attributing the sayings to those who said it; so you say, for instance, that such sect believes in such-and-such, and this is just a narration of history and a tale of reality, and there is nothing wrong with that, Allah willing.

Muslim scholars have written books about other religions where they narrated the sayings of the people of different religions and misguided sects. There is a great benefit in that, which is that a Muslim would know the great blessing of guidance that Allah has blessed him with, as He made him a Muslim and did not make him someone who follows these false religions.

For more benefit that reporting (narrating) a statement of disbelief does not make one a disbeliever, please refer to Fataawa 352756 and 91710.

Allah knows best.
