Question:

A girl didn’t want to study in co-education. But many people kept telling her to study there by saying many things. The parents of the girl also wanted her to study there. One day, the mother of a girl she knows called her on phone to convince her to study there. The woman said something like, “As disobeying Allah is a type of kufr, disobeying one's parents is the same type of kufr. Do you know it?” The girl forgot if she said yes or didn’t said yes as many days passed that the incident happened. She has at least 1% or 2% doubt that she said, “Yes”. The girl felt very uneasy talking to her

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

That girl should not preoccupy herself with the answer of that woman; we fear that her question stems from whispers.

There is no doubt that the statement of that woman is falsehood if she meant disbelief according to the terminology of the scholars. Disobedience to parents, even if it is a lack of dutifulness and obedience to parents, it is not disbelief.

For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 13087.

Moreover, obedience to parents is not required except in what is permissible.

Allah knows best.
