Question:

Assalamu alaikum. I would like to know if there is a ruqyah dedicated to treating weak intellect and memory, just as there is for magic, envy and evil eye. This is because, I have weak memory and a slow intellect (I pick up things really slowly).Jazakallahu khair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

As for Ruqyah, we are not aware of any specific Ruqyah that strengthens memory. But there is healing in the Quran. Also, supplication is beneficial for all diseases, and in the Hadeeth “Supplication is beneficial regarding things which have happened and things which have not happened, so devote yourselves to supplication, servants of Allah.” [Ahmad and Al-Hakim]

It should also be mentioned that a Muslim can seek help in the remembrance of Allah in order to remember what he forgot; Allah Says (what means): {And remember your Lord when you forget [it].} [Quran 18:24]

Some scholars stated that the general Saying of Allah {And remember your Lord when you forget [it].} indicates the command to mention Allah when one forgets, as this gets rid of forgetfulness and the servant remembers what he forgot.

We have mentioned in our Fatawa in the Arabic section that forgetting has different causes, and accordingly, the types of treatment differ; the details of that are as follows:

First: The cause of forgetfulness may be an organic disease, which leads to poor memory. The treatment of this case is to consult specialist doctors.

Second: The cause of forgetting may be due to the heart’s preoccupation with other matters; its treatment is by freeing the heart of these preoccupations, because in this case, it is one of the impediments that prevent awareness and understanding of information.

Third: The reason for forgetting may be due to committing sins and acts of disobedience, which results in apathy in the heart and its treatment is to fear Allah and repent from sins and disobedience.

Fourth: Forgetting may be due to being possessed by the devil; its treatment is to remember Allah frequently, recite the Quran, and perform Ruqyah.

For more benefit on Ruqyah, please refer to Fatawa 4310, 82918, 31469, 13277, 4678, 88660, 81667, and 117025.

Allah knows best.
