Question:

Who is Israa’eel (Israel)?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Israa’eel is Ya‘qoob (Jacob), the son of Is-Haaq (Isaac) the son of  Ibraaheem (Abraham), may Allaah exalt their mention.

In many verses of the Quran he is mentioned as Ya‘qoob. He is mentioned in one verse with the name Israa’eel in chapter Aal Imraan (Chapter 3 of the Quran): Allaah  Says (what means): {All food was lawful to the Children of Israa’eel except what Israa’eel had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed.} [Quran 3:93]

He is also the Israa’eel to whom the Children of Israa’eel are attributed.

Allaah Knows best.
