Question:

Is it permissible for a man to greet and then seek permission from Prophet Ilyaas (Elijah), May Allaah Exalt his mention, before cutting off a kind of tree to be used in medicine?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Whoever wants to cut off a tree or any other plant in order to use it for his needs and that plant was permissible for him to use, then it is permissible for him do so. There is no mention in the Sharee‘ah that one should greet or seek permission from Prophet Ilyaas may Allaah exalt his mention or any other prophet.

If the question is intended in the same way that we understood, it should be noted that these matters are superstitions that a Muslim should not pay any attention to.

Allaah Knows best.
