Question:

What is the description of the women of Paradise?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There are many verses and Hadeeths (narrations) that describe the women of Paradise. For example, Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.}[Quran 2:25] The term {purified} means the one who is pure from menstruation, urine, postpartum bleeding, excrement, nasal mucus, spit, and every kind of filth associated with the worldly life. In addition, their inner selves are pure from bad morals and dispraised qualities, their tongues are pure from foul words, their sight is pure from looking at any man other than their husbands, and their clothes are pure from any dirt. ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas‘ood and Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with them stated that {purified} means they do not menstruate, urinate, excrete or expectorate.

Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Thus. And We will marry them to Hoor}[Quran 44:54] Hoor is the plural of Hawraa’: a fair white young woman with very dark eyes. Zayd ibn Aslam may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned that Hawraa’ is the one whose beauty causes one’s sight to be dazzled.

Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or Jinn, So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? As if they were rubies and coral.}[Quran 55: 56-58] Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him stated that all the commentators are of the opinion that such wives will limit their sight to their husbands so that they will not look at anyone other than them. {Untouched} means they are virgins who have never had sexual intercourse. Al-Hasan may Allaah have mercy upon him and the majority of the scholars of Tafseer (exegesis) mentioned that those women will be like a ruby in the clarity of their complexion, and will be like coral in its whiteness.

Describing the women of Paradise, Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation, and made them virgins, [fair women] devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, for the companions of the right.}[Quran 56:35-38] In these verses, Allaah The Almighty made a combined mention of their good looks and their affability towards their husbands, which are the essential qualities that make any woman desirable in the eyes of men. They will be of equal age; thirty-three.

The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that if a woman of the people of Paradise appeared to the people of the earth, she would illuminate the whole earth and fill it with a pleasant scent. He also mentioned that the sight of her head cover placed on her head is better than the world and whatever it contains. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that each man in Paradise will have two Hoor wives. Each one of them will wear seventy garments and the beauty of her leg will show through them.

Allaah The Almighty described the inhabitants of Paradise that they will be busy in joyful things. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation, they and their spouses -- in shade, reclining on adorned couches, for them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]} [Quran 36:55-57]

Ibn Mas‘ood may Allaah be pleased with him mentioned that they will be occupied with deflowering the virgins. There are many verses and Hadeeths describing the Hoor and more details are to be found in books of Tafseer and Hadeeth. We supplicate Allaah The Almighty to admit us all to Paradise with His Favor and Mercy and to guide us to do good deeds to be the means of entering it.

And Allaah Knows best.
