Question:

I want to marry a rich man, but I'm not rich. Is that a problem if we want to be happy in life? His family won't accept this marriage. What should I do? Thanks very much for your help.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We advise our sister to be patient and fear Allah. Allah Says (what means): {Indeed, he who fears Allah and is patient, then indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good."} [Quran 12:90]

We ask Allah to bless you with a pious husband. Do not seek a rich man, seek a religious man. If he loves you, he will honor you, and if he dislikes you, he does not oppress you. Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “A believing man should not hate a believing woman (i.e. his wife) since if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another.” [Muslim]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) advises to marry a religious person as he said: “If a man whose religion and moral conduct are pleasing to you proposes to you, then let him marry; otherwise there will be great mischief and corruption on earth. They [companions] asked: “What if he has something to be criticized about.” He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “If a man whose religion and moral conduct are pleasing to you proposes to you, then let him marry (and he repeated this thrice).” [At-Tirmithi]

By the expression “What if he has something to be criticized about.”, they mean if he is poor or so and so…

May Allah bless you.

Allah knows best.
