Magic or hypnotism

Question:

Is magic or hyptonism obnoxious? give reasons

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and Blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. If hypnotism is based on some help from the Jinns (Devils) and Satans, it is undoubtedly prohibited. Because, in this case it just becomes a type of soothsaying which is a sort of Shirk (polytheism). If hypnotism is done through legal means, (scientific ones for instance) it follows, therefore, the rule of its goal i.e. if the goal is lawful, so the hypnotism is lawful and vice-versa. For example, using hypnotism to take information from criminals and corrupters is halal (lawful). As for magic, it is one of the major sins. Some ulamas (scholars) consider it a Kufr. Allah Says (Interpretation of meaning): {Sulaiman did not disbelieve but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved} . [1:102] So, going to the magicians and asking their help to harm other people is strictly prohibited. Allah knows best.
