Question:

What is the role of a woman in Islam? what are the things she can do and what are the things she cannot do?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. The role of the woman in Islam, it is very important and necessary. She has a very wide field in which, she should work. First of all, she should take care of her home, look after her children and give them good education. Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah upon him) said: “… and the woman is the guardian of her husband’s home and she is responsible for what she is looking after”. She is the mother, the sister, the wife and the aunt. In one word, she is the second half of the community. The poet says: (adapted) “The mother is a school, which if well - prepared, delivers a whole nation with pure and good roots”. The enemies of Islam struggle hard to force the woman to give up her first and most important role, that is to raise up the generations. They want her to occupy herself with what is not fruitful neither for her nor for the society in general. But she could work if the nature of the work is more appropriate for her than for men like teaching girls or examining women or the like. And Allah knows best
