Question:

How can we explain that Adam and his wife were the first on earth and that their children married one to another to reproduce. I believe that Adam and Hawwa were sent to earth as any other prophet in a certain population and that God sent a message telling them they were the first human creation in Paradise. wa alaykum Assalam

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

1. Whoever recites the Quran, will believe, without any doubt, that Almighty Allah has created Adam may Allaah exalt his mention from dust and put him in Paradise. When he committed a fault, Allah expelled him from Paradise to earth. This was the stratagem of Satan to make Adam may Allaah exalt his mention far from the Mercy of Allah. But when Adam, may Allah exalt his mention, turned towards Allah and repented, Allah forgave him and made him a Messenger for his descendants. This is proved in the Quran that when Adam may Allaah exalt his mention came down to earth there were no mankind, but there were (Jinn) before him, when they caused much mischief, Allah sent the Angels, and they expelled them to oceans.

2. All the previous scholars, interpreters of the Quran and jurists agreed that Allah had ordered Adam, may Allah exalt his mention, to establish marriage among his sons and daughters on condition that the marriage should be between a son born earlier with the daughter who was born later. This was a necessity for reproduction.

3. When Allah addressed the Angels concerning creating Adam, they were astonished, and asked (what means): {They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?"} [Quran 2:30]

From this verse, it is clearly understood that there were no creatures of this type. If there were any mankind, then the angels would not be astonished.

4. All the scholars unanimously agreed that Adam may Allaah exalt his mention is the father of all human beings and he was the Messenger of Allah to teach them good things and show them the right path.
