Menses during prayers

Question:

If a woman has her menses while praying, does she have to make up the prayer? If so, what does she do if she cannot remember exacting which prayers were in this time period? Please give reference from Qur'an and Sunnah.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Dear Sister,

When the woman menstruates (gets her menses) while praying she should immediately stop praying because it is forbidden for her to pray while in menses.

An-Nawawi said: “All the scholars of the Ummah are agreed that it is forbidden for (the menstruating woman) to pray any kind of prayers (obligatory or supererogatory) and they are all agreed that she is not asked to make up for the missed prayers

As for making up for the prayers which you mentioned in your question, then you are not asked to do so as long as the excuse (the menses) happened while you are praying a prayer in its usual time, i.e. without negligence.

Allah knows best.
