Secret Marriage

Question:

If a man married a woman in a secret way without telling her parents and without telling any one will that be accepted in Islam?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

No doubt this marriage is invalid because it lacks two obligatory conditions:

First: The Wali (guardian).

Second: Two trustworthy witnesses.

In a sound Hadeeth, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “No marriage can take place without the Wali and two trustworthy witnesses.” [Ahmad and Al-Bayhaqi]

So, this marriage should be revoked. It cannot be resumed without two witnesses and the Wali (guardian) of the woman.
