Question:

I want to know what is the punishment for those who belives in what soothsayers and astrologers say?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

What the soothsayers and astrologers claim is nothing but lies and nonsense which could mislead people. It is unlawful, according to the Sharee’ah, for any person who believes in Allah, His Messenger, and His revealed Books to go to soothsayers or astrologers, or to believe in anything of what they say.

Anybody who goes to them or believes them commits a major sin which could affect badly his own faith.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortune-teller and believes him, he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad ( sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ))”. And whoever goes to them and asks them about something, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days.” [Ahmad]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) also said: “Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and asks him, his prayers will not be accepted for forty nights (days).” [Muslim]

Allah knows best.
