Question:

What are some of the signs of the night of Power?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Laylatul-Qadr or the Night of Decree is not known. But it is definitely one of the last ten nights of Ramadan. There are signs which if they appear; they are indications that the night has arrived. Some signs appear during the night itself, and others may occur the following morning.

The Signs that occur during that night are described in the following Hadeeth. Ubadah Ibn As-Saamit may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The Night of Decree is a clear and shining night as if there were a bright moon in it. It is calm and quiet. It is neither cold nor hot and no shooting stars are thrown in it till the morning.” [Ahmad]

Moreover, Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him said: “We were talking about Laylatul-Qadr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and he said: “Does anyone amongst you remember (the night) when the moon arose and it was like a piece of plate (at the fag end of the month in a state of waning)?” [Muslim] Some scholars said that this means that it is in the last part of the month of Ramadan.

Among the signs that appear the next day is that the sun appears the following morning white and without rays (beamless).

Allah knows best.
