Question:

I have, Masha Allah, a rich brother. Who gives Zakah every year I am the one responsible for distributing this money. My husband doesn't have work so we need money for paying the rent on our house. My brother doesn't help me because my husband and my brother never agrees I they quarrel, even though he knows our problem. I want to ask is it possible (Halal) for me to take money and pay for our house rent with out letting him know about it. I would like to let my brother know about it but I am quite sure that he will accept it. Please help me on this problem.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If your brother did not specify some people to whom the Zakaah should be given, then you may give some of his Zakaah money to your husband without informing him (your brother).

But if he has specified the people to whom the Zakaah should be given, then you should give the Zakaah to those people only.

Allah knows best.
