Question:

Is it true that if one perform Eid prayer he can leave the Friday prayer?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If the day of ‘Eed occurs on Jumu'ah (Friday), then the prayer of Jumu'ah becomes no longer an obligation upon those who had performed the ‘Eed prayer. They have the choice to perform it or leave it and instead offer the Thuhr prayer. The evidence for this ruling is the Hadeeth narrated from Zayd ibn al-Arqam who said: "The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) prayed the ‘Eed prayer, and then he gave an exemption concerning the Jumu'ah, saying, ‘Whoever wishes to pray it may pray it.’” [Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi, An-Nasaa-i and Ibn Maajah; and Imaam Ibn Khuzaymah graded it as sound]

Allah knows best.
