Delay Paying Rent Until after Hajj

Question:

I want to go for Hajj, I'm renting a house and pay the owner of the house around 500 Riyals. Shall I pay him, or wait after Hajj?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Whoever is indebted to another, has to pay the creditor his right, especially if the latter requests it, since avoidance of paying a debt by a rich one is considered a form of injustice.

Delaying to pay what is due constitutes a form of preventing others from receiving their right.

Therefore, the amount of 500 Riyals is the landlord's due right and it is your financial obligation to pay it.

So, it is not permissible for you to perform Hajj until you settle such a debt if it is due and mature. Otherwise, you can travel to perform Hajj without paying it at once. But, you have to give him something in pledge so that he can take his right in case of need.

Allah knows best.
