Inheritance of a grandmother

Question:

I would request for guidance about a problem of inheritance. My grandmother expired leaving some property with me. She had no male issue as an heir. She has only four daughters and a stepbrother. Her real brothers died during her lifetime. How shall we divide her property? Kindly guide us in this matter. May Allah reward you with best of His blessings in all times to come.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

The daughters take two-thirds of the inheritance, and if the brother is from the deceased father's side he will take the remaining inheritance. If he is from the deceased mother's side, he will not inherit because the children of the dead person and their descendants prevent him from taking inheritance.
In the above case the daughters prevent him (the brother from mother's side) to have a share in inheritance.
Allah knows best.
