Question:

Do Jinn still exist in this world? If yes, can we see and talk to them? Is there any power attributed to them by Allah? Will they be helpful to human beings in any manner?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

As for the existence of Jinn, it is agreed that they exist; whoever denies their existence becomes Kafir. They will continue to exist on this earth till the Day of Judgment since their father, Iblees, asked Allah to give him respite and survival till the Day of Judgment, and Allah has accepted his request.

But we cannot see them, Allah Says in this concern (what means): {Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe…} [Quran 7:27]

However, sometimes Allah may show the Jinn to some of the humans, and they are able to see them (the Jinn) and to talk to them. Allah has granted Jinn the power to adopt forms or shapes of animals and snakes, etc. which is not possible for human beings.

Some people can address Jinn, can enjoin on them what is right and forbid them what is wrong; they can even teach them about Islam as the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) did.

One can make the Jinn subject to him and use them within permissible limits. If one cannot subject them except by offering sacrifice to them or the like, then it is Shirk.

As it is also forbidden to use them in any forbidden field such as to steal people's money, or to harm people as practiced commonly by magicians and fortune tellers who have relations with Jinn.

Allah knows best.
