Question:

Here are few questions which many of us have. These are regarding purification.1) Is there a specific Du'a to say while taking bath in the bathroom or before entering in (when a relation ship between husband and wife, when women have there menstrual periods, after giving birth)?2) Do the beds become unclean after a relationship between partners?3) Is there a specific way for taking bath at different times?4) What are the different things one should not do when a person is unclean?5) Can women read Qur'an during these times?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

We do not know any Du'a that should be recited before taking a bath or after it; whether the bath is after having sexual intercourse or after being clean from menses or confinement period. The bed where a person has sex with his wife is clean. It is proved from the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) that "He used to perform prayer in the cloths in which he had sex" [ Ahmad ].
The way of taking an obligatory bath is same whether it is due to sexual impurity or after becoming clean from menses or confinement period.
Some scholars believe that since a woman frequently needs to take a bath from sexual impurity it is not compulsory for her to undo her plaited hair, provided that the water can reach the roots of her hair.
Furthermore, whoever has not taken a bath after becoming pure from menses or confinement period or sexual impurity is forbidden from performing all kinds of prayers, making Tawaf around al-Ka'ba, touching Qur'an and staying in mosque.
According to the preponderant opinion of Muslim scholars it is forbidden for a male person with sexual impurity to recite the Qur'an. But a menstruating woman or one who is in her confinement period can recite the Qur'an without touching it.
Allah knows best.
