Claiming to be better than everyone except the Prophet

Question:

Can anyone in our time claim that the leader of his Islamic party or his Sheikh is better than the Prophet' s Companions or better than everybody except the Prophet, and claim that this has been proved by dreams?
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

 

It is forbidden to say that a given person from the generations that came after the Companions of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is better than them because Allaah The Almighty was pleased with them and they were pleased with Him. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) declared that some of them will go to Paradise, such as the four Rightly-Guided Caliphs. Thus, saying that there is any person among the people who came after the Companions who is better or worthier than them is a misconception and a form of plain deviation. In fact, any person who says so has to repent to Allaah The Almighty for such a heinous statement.
