Question:

Is it obligatory to wash (Ghusl) himself before Adhan al Fajr in Ramadan for the person who slept with his wife during the night?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If someone becomes in a state of ritual impurity during Ramadan, some scholars preferred that he performs Ghusl before Fajr. However, if one does not perform Ghusl till Fajr starts, his fast is valid and he does not need to do any other thing. The evidence for the mentioned ruling is the Hadeeth narrated from ‘Aa’ishah and Umm Salamah may Allaah be pleased with them that “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) would rise in the morning on a fasting day while he is sexually defiled and then he would perform a ritual bath and fast.” Imam Muslim added “And he does not make up that day.

Allah knows best.
