Question:

Is there any hadith about blowing air in water by reciting some duas and giving it to suffering victims?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is confirmed in the Sunnah that blowing air by a performer of Ruqyah (Quranic verses and Prophetic supplications) on the body to whom the Ruqyah is made is permissible.

‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated: “When a member of the household of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) became ill, he used to blow over him/her after reciting Surahs 113 and 114. When he sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) suffered from illness of which he died, I used to blow over him and rubbed his body with his hand for his hand is more blessed than mine.

Since the aim of blowing air is to make the air that results from recitation reach the body of one to whom Ruqyah is made, then the scholars permitted using water or something like that.

Salah Ibn Ahmad Ibn Hanbal may Allaah have mercy upon him said: ‘When I became ill, my father used to take a glass of water and recite some Quranic verses over it, and then, he asked me to drink and wash my face and hands (with it).

This indicates the permissibility of Abu Dawood's narration, which reads: “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) entered the house of Thaabit Ibn Qays Ibn Shammaas, while he was ill, and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “O Lord of The People! Remove distress [of Thabit], then he (the Prophet) took some earth from the valley of Buthaan and put it in a utensil and then blew air on it with water [after some recitation] and then poured it on him (Thabit).

Allah knows best.
