Difficulties with New Muslim Husband

28-4-2003 | IslamWeb

Question:

My husband is a new Muslim, about five years now; I'm trying hard to teach him more about the Islam. But he still has his ways as a Jahil, for ex: if I said to him I'm going to my uncle's house Saturday, he will reply to do what you want you don't need to tell me where you going, and I don't need to tell you where I'm going. Even something I will say to him this is not good in Islam; then he will ignore me and go out, as well as speaking to girls, calling them by telephone. When I told him this is Haram, he will reply leave the alone; let me do what I want, and you do what you want. What can I do with him?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Islam means to submit to Allah, to follow His Rulings and be subjected to Him by heart and by actions. Allah Says (what means):

• {Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims."} [Quran 6: 162-163]

• {It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair…} [Quran 33: 36]

A Muslim is not allowed to say I am free; I will live as I wish without submitting to the rulings of the Sharee’ah and without being in the limits of what is lawful and what is unlawful. Allah Says (what means):

• {Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"} [Quran 23: 115]

• {Does man think that he will be left neglected (without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allah) on him)} [Quran 75: 36]

Try your best to inform your husband of the religion of Allah and what it means. Do not spare any effort to make him steadfast on the Right Path. You may use all possible means such as Islamic cassettes, videos, booklets, etc. to make him a good Muslim. Also, you may contact any Islamic center and ask for their help in this regard.

Finally, try your best using wisdom and gentleness to show him the right path. Do not forget to supplicate Allah to grant him guidance and steadfastness.

Allah knows best.
